Vietnam: leather and footwear exports to rise in Q1
Vietnam’s leather and
footwear export earnings for the first three months of 2012 is likely to be
around $2 billion, which would be a growth rate of 21.7% year-on-year,
according to the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso). The export
figure would also be in line with the country’s annual target of $7.3 billion.
Lefaso deputy chairwoman
and general secretary, Nguyen Thi Tong, made the statement while speaking at a
seminar jointly organised by Lefaso and the Vietnam Leather and Shoe Research
Institute.
The seminar focused on
launching a campaign to persuade creative local designers to participate in the
Fourth International Footwear Design Competition 2012 in the Asia region.
The event, to be organised
by the Asia Footwear Association and other regional industrial associations, will
be held in China from May 30 to June 1, 2012. It aims at finding the creative
and professional designing talent and enhancing the design and production
capacity in Asian nations, Ms Thong said.
The competition will
provide a platform to several enterprises and designers in the region to
showcase their designs and styles, she said.
