Mr Goldenitz said the move to establish it was a pro-active step taken to effectively and efficiently manage the liquid discharge.
The establishment of the plant has come after concerns were expressed by stakeholders in Kano about the mounting industrial pollution that companies in the sector generate.
“As a socially responsible company, we conceived the project out of our concern for the environmental well being of members of our host community and the need to step up the treatment of our discharge from the present primary treatment to secondary level,” said Mr Goldenitz. “We believe that through this process, the discharge must have been purified enough thereby making it harmless to the environment, particularly the fauna and flora growing along the river bed, where the discharge is passing through.”
Mr Goldenitz also said that the company is planning to construct a tertiary treatment plant which will have capacity to fully treat its discharge. “We have also resolved to embark on the construction of a tertiary treatment plant, in the nearest future. By the time this is done, the company will be in a position to treat the liquid discharge 100%. We believe the ongoing investment by our company in the project represents a win-win situation for us and the people of the state, because of the beneficial impacts it is going to have on the environment.”
