Ethiopian leather exports up by almost 65% before crust tariff kicked in
22/03/2012
The general secretary of the national leather industry association, Abdisa Adugna, announced the figure at a press conference in Addis Ababa on March 21. It represents an increase of $25 million, 64.7%, on the corresponding figure for 2010.
Around $46 million from the 2011 figure came from exports of crust, which are going to be severely restricted in 2012 after the government placed a tariff of 150% on exports of this type of product.
