PTA asks for removal of solid waste from tannery cluster in Karachi
The chairman of the southern zone of the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), M. Khurshid Ahmed, has criticised the government for not extending essential services to the export-oriented leather units in the Korangi Industrial Area, Karachi, for the disposal of solid waste from the industry.
In a statement, Mr Ahmed expressed his dissatisfaction with the authorities for not making a permanent arrangement for the removal of solid waste, which he said is causing pollution in the Tannery Zone.
He regretted that the repeated efforts of the PTA to persuade the District East Municipal Corporation (KMC), Minister of Commerce and Industry Sindh, KITE, Sindh Environmental Protection Agency to help the industry have so far gone in vain.
He appealed to Governor Sindh to order the KMC to lift the solid waste from the Tannery Zone in order to make the area free from pollution.
