Ecco achieves best results in its history despite Thai floods

12/03/2012
Danish footwear brand Ecco, whose vertically integrated business model means it insists on running its own tanneries and shoe factories, has said that its results for 2011 are the best in the company’s history.

Turnover increased by $177 million compared to the previous year and profit for 2011 was $160 million. Chief operating officer, Michael Hauge Sørensen, said on announcing the results that they would have been even better but for serious flooding in Thailand in October, which, as well as having severe consequences for the population, affected the Ecco tannery and footwear factory at
Ayutthaya.

He commented: “A lot of things went well for Ecco in 2011, but the year was not without challenges. The low point came when our factory and tannery in Thailand were hit by massive floods in October. But our employees pulled together and displayed tremendous determination and ability to get things up and running again.”
