Bangladesh: leathergoods exports up 36.6%

Bangladesh’s export receipts during the July-February period of the current fiscal stood at $15.9 billion, reflecting a 13% increase over the same period of the last fiscal, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

 

Leather exports grew by 17.3% and leathergoods exports grew by per cent and 36.57 and earnings stood at $ 206.94 million and $ 49.71million respectively during the period.

 

The country’s total export earnings during the first eight months of FY 2010-11 registered a 40.3% growth over corresponding period of the previous fiscal. Meanwhile, exports in February 2012 increased by 5% to $2 billion, over the earnings of $1.9 billion in February 2011.

 

“Export growth slowed down, mainly because of the recession in the EU,” Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin told the Financial Express.
