New tannery for Belarus

08/03/2012
The government of Belarus has announced a plan to build a new tannery, to be located in the city of Grodno in the west of the country. It will produce finished leather for footwear and upholstery and will be kitted out with "cutting-edge equipment and technology" from overseas, the government statement said.

Estimates suggest the government will invest close to $50 million in the project, with 600,000 square-metres of finished leather the target output once the facility is up and running.

This news follows an announcement in January that the prime minister of Belarus,  Mikhail Myasnikovich, had given his backing to a plan for an existing tannery in Gatovo to increase its production levels by 50%.
