Improved demand from Russia, the European Union and the Middle East, as well as the opening up of new markets in North America and south-east Asia are the reasons behind recent optimism among Brazilian beef exporters.

Meat export association Abiec has said revenues from shipments of Brazilian beef to overseas markets should reach $6 billion in 2012, an increase of 11% on last year.

Abiec executive secretary, Fernando Sampaio, has also said that there is great potential for Brazilian beef in the Chinese market, with five Brazilian packer plants recently receiving the necessary approval to ship beef to China and nine more waiting to join them.
