Hermès reveals EUR1.5m ‘bag’
French luxury goods brand Hermès has unveiled four new handbag designs, in the form of miniature totes made from gold and studded with precious stones. The items, which are designed to be worn as a bracelet, with the handbag strap resting on the wrist, retail for EUR1.5 million.
The main compartment of the ‘tote’ dangles below the wearer’s wrist, so it can be held in the wearer’s hand. A rose gold version of the brand’s Kelly bag features a crocodile scale effect and 1,160 diamonds.
“We are a little crazy here,” Patrick Thomas, CEO of Hermès, told the Financial Times.
When the newspaper asked Mr Thomas about who would buy the items he said: “I have no idea. But maybe they will have two bodyguards!”
It took French accessories designer Pierre Hardy two years to produce the intricate creations. Each of the new designs will only be produced three times.
