Kilt customers cool on fish leather sporrans

Paul Swadzba, who runs Edinburgh-based The Kilt Store, travelled to Iceland last summer to visit the tannery and choose the leather he wanted for the project. His selection included perch leather in a deep purple colour, which he took back to Scotland to have crafted into a classy dress sporran design, topped with a band of chrome with an engraved Celtic motif.
His visit to Atlantic Leather sparked interest at local television station RUV, who interviewed Mr Swadzba and asked him about his business and his interest in fish leather.
However, the reaction among customers at his three shops in Edinburgh, Musselburgh and Dundee has been cool so far. "I think these sporrans are beautiful," he told leatherbiz, "and we've certainly talked to a lot of people about them, but so far sales haven't been so good. This is a different look, one for a customer who is looking for something unusual, but the purple colour goes extremely well with many popular tartans."
