24/02/2012
The Leather Working Group (LWG), the multi-stakeholder group that assesses the environmental performance of tanneries and awards gold, silver and bronze status to those achieving the best results, has made a series of new awards during the month of February.

Henan Prosper Skins & Leather Enterprises, based in the Chinese city of Mengzhou in Henan Province, has received the silver award from LWG.

Earlier in the month, the organisation announced that Brazilian footwear upper and leathergoods tanner, CBC Couros e Acabamentos, from Novo Hamburgo had achieved the bronze award, as had Hung Sheng Tannery, located in Tainan Hsien in Taiwan.

LWG was formed as a collaboration between footwear brands and tanneries to assess the compliance and environmental performance of tanners and to promote sustainable and appropriate environmental business practices in the leather industry. End-user companies outwith the footwear industry have also joined.

A meeting for LWG members and invited guests only will take place in Hong Kong  around the time of the APLF exhibition. The meeting will be at the exhibition venue, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, in room N101B on Friday, March 30.
