Bangladesh: leather exports up 26.4%
Bangladesh’s total leather exports increased by 26.4% to $446.9 million in first seven months of the fiscal year 2011-2012 (July-January), according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). They stood at $353.5 million in the same period last year.
The breakdown showed that Bangladesh exported finished leather worth $180.1 million against $149.5 million, showing a growth of 22.4%. Similarly, footwear exports were up by 28.9% to $222.4 million and leather bags and purses by 32.3% to $41.5 million from $172.6 million to $31.4 million respectively in same period last year.
Bangladesh has fixed an export target of $792.3 million for leather sector for 2011-12 (July-June) compared to $651.1 million in the fiscal year 2010-11.
