Italian brand up-cycles leather bags from MINIs

Fashion brand Carmina Campus has created a new line of bags using the materials left over from the prototypes of the new MINI Roadster, which includes discarded colour samples, seat leather, soft-top caves and body plates.

The material has been “repurposed” into a line of weekend and city bags for men and women, MINI said, by Carmina Campus under the direction of Ilaria Venturini Fendi, the youngest daughter of Anna Fendi and former designer for the legendary Italian house.

Material used includes seat leather for the bag exterior, mosaics made from body work, sun visors used to conceal makeup mirrors and door handles used as details on the smaller bags.
The bags will be launched during Milan Fashion Week (February 22-28), MINI said.

“For big brands like MINI in particular, up-cycling is an important issue,” Fendi said.
“After all, this is where you will always get scrap material that is generally described as waste, but in fact can become part of a high-quality object.”
