The heir to the throne of Belgium, Prince Philippe, paid a visit to one of the few remaining tanneries in the country on February 15.

With his wife, Princesse Mathilde, he included a tour of Tannerie Masure in the town of Estaimbourg on the itinerary for a visit to the Tournai region in the south of Belgium.

The tannery was founded in 1873 and currently employs 120 people. It specialises in producing vegetable tanned leather for high-end leathergoods and exports 98% of the leather it makes. Three years ago, it established a joint venture with French luxury brand Louis Vuitton.
