International beef markets key for profits in US cattle operations

The committee that oversees the demand and sales of US beef overseas, the Joint International Markets Committee, arranged a formal meeting for February 3, at which it said it would review 2011 export results and discuss the outlook for 2012.
In the build-up to the Nashville event, the chairman of the committee, Kevin Kester, said US cattle producers were becoming more and more aware of the premiums available in the international marketplace. He said beef exports had become “a key component in the profitability of their operations”.
