LV turns iconic Rome cinema into its first Maison in Italy
30/01/2012
The company commissioned New York-based architect Peter Marino to redevelop the Roma Etoile cinema into a flagship concept store for the brand. Appropriately, international film stars, including Cate Blanchet and Catherine Deneuve, were among the guests of honour at the opening of the new store.
Inside the Maison, visitors will pass before the works of artist Georg Dokoupil before reaching the heart of the store, where an elliptical staircase pays tribute to the baroque architecture of the Italian capital and provides, thanks to its unusual shape, an open view of the three levels on which luxury leathergoods and shoes other Louis Vuitton products, including luggage, men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, watches, jewellery and accessories, are on display.
At the opening, brand president, Yves Carcelle, commented: “In this historical venue, which has been dedicated to cinema for almost a century, we have taken up a cultural and architectural double challenge. Without taking anything away from the prestigious past of this symbol of the Eternal City, we are embarking on a distinctive project which combines exceptional craftsmanship, art and culture in time and space.”
