Colombia: road collapse wipes out tannery

25/01/2012
A road has collapsed in the Quindío department of central Colombia, fortunately without any loss of life. However, three business, including a tannery, have been left in ruins.

Owner of the López Jaramillo tannery, Wilson López, has calculated the cost of the damage, which occurred at around six o’clock in the morning, at more than $500,000.

Mr López told local media: “We’re glad that no one was killed. The only person injured was our night watchman, and he’s much better already. But we’ve spend 30 years building this business up and now it’s all under rubble. We’ve been left with nothing.”
