Lasting product appeal delivers growth for Richemont

Swiss luxury goods group Richemont has reported an increase in sales of 24% for the quarter ending December 31, 2011 compared to the same quarter a year earlier.

Total sales for the three-month period across the group were more than EUR 2.6 billion. There was growth in all main world markets, including 36% in Asia-Pacific, 23% in the Americas, 17% in Japan and 16% in Europe.

The part of the group that contains luxury leathergoods brands Dunhill and Lancel achieved sales for the quarter of of EUR 339 million, growth of 30% compared to the previous year.

Chief executive, Johan Rupert, commented: "The growth in sales reflects growing demand in Asia-Pacific, our Maisons’ creativity and the lasting appeal of our products."

There was a slowdown in sales growth relative to the first six months of the current financial year. Mr Rupert said this reflected "a combination of more demanding comparative figures as well as the volatile and challenging economic
environment".
