CLE to set up buyer event in Saudi Arabia

17/01/2012
India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has said it wants to arrange an event to bring together leather-sector buyers and sellers between its member companies and contacts in Saudi Arabia.

It has arranged a venue, the Indian consulate in Jeddah, and a date, March 25-26, 2012.

According to the CLE, Saudi Arabia is a prime market in the Middle East region for footwear and leathergoods and represents a good prospect for Indian exporters.

India's export of leather and leather products to Saudi Arabia increased from $10.6 million in 2003-04 to $22 million in 2010-11, the organisation said. Footwear has a share of 53% of this, and leathergoods a share of 35.7%.

India also imports raw hides and skins and leather from Saudi Arabia. The value of these imports increased from $23 million in the year 2003 to $42.1 million in 2008.
