Italian tanneries awarded millions in research grants

The Italian ministry with responsibility for industrial research has included two tanneries from Solofra among the recipients of multi-million euro research grants.

In all, around 200 projects will receive backing from the government to help them make advances in developing new ideas and new technologies. The combined value of the grants is EUR 1.1 billion.

DMD Solofra and Conceria Solofra Amica are the two tanneries whose new ideas have won the minitry's backing. The first of these will receive more than EUR 3.8 million to help it introduce bio and nanotechnology to its tanning processes. The second will have a grant of more than EUR 4.1 million to help it develop leather for protective apparel applications.
