Specialty chemicals manufacturer Clariant has put in place its preparations for the 2012 edition of the India International Leather Fair, which will take place in Chennai from February 1–3.

The company said in the build-up to the event that it intended to showcase the innovations in leather chemicals it has introduced in recent months, with its EasyWhite Tan process taking centre stage. It reiterated that it sees among the main benefits of EasyWhite Tan that it uses Granofin Easy F-90 Liquid, an organic compound that is not based on chrome, phenols or aldehydes. This removes the need to add salt during the tanning process as well as reducing the number of stages in the tanning process itself, Clariant has said.

Other highlights on display in Chennai will be a new waterproofing agent, Dermaphob WA-71, specially developed for high-performance water repellent shoe uppers, Aqualen topcoat systems including Melio 09-W-66 and Aqualen Top GC-2033, designed to generate a wet, pleasant feel combined with high wet rub-resistance, and Aqualen Top IL, which provides a lacquer for base-coated leathers without the use of solvents.

Other developments include a diversified range of special oil and wax products like Melio Wax PO-418, Melio Oil PO-210, and Melio Oil PO-212, to help tanners create special effects with specific surface textures.

Clariant will also be present its colour trends predictions for leather for the spring-summer 2013 season.
