Chengdu attracts leathergoods brands

One of China's fastest growing cities, Chengdu in the western province of Sichuan, recorded a retail spend of $22.1 billion in the first half of 2011, an increase of 18.4% on the same six-month period in 2010, and faster retail growth by 1.6% than the Chinese national average.

Over the same period, the incomes of people in the city were reported to be 15.3% higher, while those of people in surrounding villages went up by 20.1%.

In all, 188 overseas brands have a retail presence in Chengdu at the moment. The China Leather Industry Association has said that more than 100 of these represent the leathergoods, footwear and apparel sectors.
