India on target for $4b leather exports

India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has reported that the country’s leather exports are on course to achieve the set target of $4 billion for the current fiscal 2011-12.

 

In line with the export target, India’s leather exports grew at a year-on-year rate of 27% to $2.3 billion during the first half of the current fiscal. The country’s leather exports increased 30% to $380 million in September 2011.

 

Leather garments topped the industry’s export list in September, with a rise of 55%. During 2011, India’s leather exports grew by 13% year-on-year to $3.8 billion.
