Ethiopia will source semi-finished material from neighbouring countries

05/01/2012
ELIA, the Ethiopian Leather Industries Association, is to set up a new organisation to source and import crust and wet blue hides and pickled skins for the country's 25 active tanneries to finish.

Reports from Ethiopia say that tanneries there face a shortage of raw material and that, rather than import raw hides and skins, the new organisation will source crust, wet blue and pickle material from Sudan and from a number of countries in Central Africa.

Larger Ethiopian tanneries may be able to negotiate to bring in their own material from the same sources.
