Clariant announces trends and colours for spring-summer 2013

Two trends, Castaway and Bon Voyage, are based on the coast and beach holidays and offer what Clariant refers to as “a relaxed and a dressy way to cover the look”. The other two trends are Modern World, which “subtly updates minimalism” and Youthquake, for which leathers will reflect urban youth tastes.
Castaway themes include dry, organic textures and a soft palette of summer pastels, an island theme that will work equally well for laid-back looks or more elegant styles.
For Bon Voyage, the theme is a retro Mediterranean cruise with multi-coloured weaves, exotic reptile, large grains, suede and veg-tan leathers in “spicy Mediterranean brights”, combining high summer fun with a touch of nostalgia.
Clean, angular shapes inspired by modern architecture and interior design update the minimalist fashion story for Modern World. Clear bold colours, subtle metallics and shimmer effects add impact to the simple lines.
Youthquake, meanwhile, is a young urban fashion story celebrating inner-city life, with “city neutrals spiked with acid brights” for a mix of heavily distressed leathers and technical textures.
This new issue of Fashion Up also includes a global colour card for spring-summer 2013, which Clariant has put together in partnership with specialist consultancy MODEUROP. The three colour themes for the season are ‘Luminous Brights’, ‘Powered Pastels’ and ‘Vivid Naturals’. “The new colours appear more sophisticated, subtler, and more delicate; working with them calls for great sensitivity,” Clariant has said. “The overall impression is fresh, bright and very summery, conveying optimism and lightness of emotion.”
For Luminous Brights, the minimalist colour theme ranges from white to beige, from gently shimmering natural gold to cooler silver shades. Powered Pastels, in contrast, are a little kitschy and seductive, yet still cool with a pinch of romanticism and the charm of the 1950s, while Vivid Naturals have “the vital energy of nature” as their inspiration, with the opulent vegetation and exotic fruits of the tropical rainforest in mind, this theme ranges from sun yellow to fiery orange and rich red as well as from natural green to variations in brown.
