Uruguay to host FLAQTIC congress

Representatives of packer firms supplying hides to tanners in Latin America will also be invited to take part. The event will take place from October 9-11, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel, Montevideo.
President of host organisation AUQTIC, Ricardo Tournier, said on announcing the dates: "The programme we are going to put forward for this congress will bring together scientific and technical knowledge, the experience of participating tanners, and the expertise of experts from chemical and machinery suppliers, as well as that of researchers from universities and research and development centres.
"Tanning hides, which transforms a waste material from the meat industry into a noble material that can satisfy human need, needs to happen without harming the environment or consumers. In our constant search for ways of achieving this, we bring to the table our knowledge, experience, hard work and our love of leather, and it is out of this complicated mix that the art of tanning emerges."
