Brussels bodies to publish new report on leather industry

08/12/2011
The European Trade Union Federation for Textiles, Clothing and Leather (ETUF:TCL) and the European leather industry’s representative body in Brussels, COTANCE, have launched a new project to publish a detailed report on the socio-economic and environmental performance of the tanning sector in Europe.

Sponsored by the European Union, the project will generate a series of new national reports, as well as the Europe-wide one detailing the leather industry's social and green credentials. The two Brussels-based social partners have said the reports will lead to new milestones for good governance in the global leather industry.

Teams of two experts representing 13 national leather industries will be in place by mid-January 2012. They will help COTANCE and ETUF:TCL to select and support the work of a consultant, who will compile the report.

The consultant will be selected on February 15 and will have until the end of May to publish the report.
