India: leather exports up 4.9%
Indian leather exports during the first six months of the current financial year 2011-12 (April-September) increased by 4.9% to $1.8 billion from $1.7 billion in the corresponding period last year.
The breakdown showed that exports of leather footwear are up by 5.5% to $682.7 million from $647.4 million, leather garments 8.3% to $199.1 million from $183.7 million and leathergoods 11.1% to $413.3 million from $372 million in April-September 2010-11.
However, on a negative note, exports of finished leather fell by 0.2% to $361.4 million from $362.3 million, footwear components were down 6.5% to $110.1 million from $117.7 million and non-leather footwear 16.2% to $5.7 million from $6.9 million of April-September 2010-11.
