High growth for Bangladeshi leather exports

Bangladesh’s leather industry has announced growth in exports for the first three months of the current financial year, July-September 2011.

According to the Export Promotion Bureau, the value of total leather-sector exports went up by 47.5% to $199.4 million over the three-month period, from $154 million in the same period last year.

Exports of finished leather had a value of $77.3 million, up from $64.4 million, growth of 20%, while footwear exports were up by 38.4% to $106.5 million from $76.9 million.

Bangladesh has an export target of $792.34 million for the leather sector for the 2011-12 financial year (July-June) compared to $651 million in  2010-11.
