World Leather Congress takes place in Rio

The World Leather Congress took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on November 9 2011, an official event of the International Council of Tanners, hosted and organised by the Brazilian Tanners’ Association CICB and co-organised by the Couromoda exhibition.

Sponsors included Brazilian packer and tanning group JBS and specialty chemicals manufacturer Lanxess.

Across a series of detailed sessions with speakers from all continents, the event had as its main theme the present and future of the global leather industry.

Closing the congress, ICT and CICB president, Wolfgang Goerlich, said he thought the event constituted a milestone for both organisations. “
This event showed that communication among people in the industry is necessary,” he said, “and I'm sure we have the capacity to run a congress like this every two or three years. I’m also sure we can improve in the future. For example, it felt to me that, during some of the debates, notably about the future of the industry, we were short of time.”
