03/11/2011
German tanning company Bader has won recognition in a design and technology awards programme for a development it made jointly with one of its partners, chemical company Wacker.

A new material the companies have developed using leather scraps from the Bader cutting operation won the prize in the carbon efficiency category of the 2011 Materialica Awards, presented in Munich in October.

Wacker has claimed that the new material should be of interest to companies in the furniture, flooring, interior design and automotive upholstery sectors because it has the potential to reduce the carbon emissions from their production processes by as much as 30%.
