Pakistan: leather exports down 30% in September

Pakistan’s leather exports decreased by 29.9% during the month of September 2011 to $72.1 million from $102.9 million in August 2011, and by 16.4% if compared with September 2010 ($86.3 million), according to data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan.

 

The breakdown shows that during September 2011, Pakistan exported finished leather worth $28.7 million, leathergoods worth $37 million and footwear worth $6.5 million compared to $33.7 million, $59.4 million and $9.8 million respectively in the previous month. This shows that finished leather exports fell by 14.9%, leathergoods by 37.7% and footwear by 34.1%.

 

On a more positive note, Pakistan’s total leather exports during the first three months of the current financial year (July-September 2011-12) increased by 1.1% to $279.1 million from $276.1 million in same period last year.
