Leather industry criticises two-day weekend

Business leaders in the Pakistani leather industry, including SM Naseem, chairman of the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), have issued a statement registering their opposition to a government decision to impose a five-day working week, with businesses closing on Saturdays and Sundays.

According to the government, the measure will save large amounts of energy across the country.

Mr Naseem said the decision had been taken without consultation with the business community and insisted it would definitely have a negative impact on productivity levels in the leather sector. He even suggested it could lead to a loss of jobs in the industry.
