Cattle innorthwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous region have been found infected withfoot-and-mouth disease (FMD), the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) announced on 17October, 2011.

The virus was first detected in 26 cattle in the county ofHaiyuan on October 8, the MOA said. Test results revealed that the cattle werecarrying the O-type virus. All infected cattle and another 682 raised with themhave been killed and properly disposed of, and according to the MOA, theepidemic has been contained.
