Export values up, but volume down for Brazilian leather

This export value represents a drop of 15% compared to August 2011, but an increase of 28% compared to the month of September last year.
CICB president, Wolfgang Goerlich, said on announcing the figures that the combined value of the Brazilian leather industry in the first nine months of 2011 was $1.56 billion, an increase of 19% compared to the same period in 2010. In terms of volume, Mr Goerlich said 25,000 tonnes equated to 1.9 million hides and said this was 16% down on August 2011 and 2% down on September 2010.
