Nigeria to have new leather cluster

13/10/2011

The director general of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Alhaji Mohammed Umar Nadada, has said that the agency plans to develop a new leather cluster at Kano Industrial Development Centre.

Mr Nadada said the decision to develop the leatherworks cluster was made in order to boost the leather industry in Nigeria. He also said that Kano was slated for the pilot scheme of the Rural Enterprise Development Programme in partnership with Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) for ‘One Product, One Local Government’ project. The project is centred on leather, groundnut and rice.

The SMEDAN director general said the project had already been successful in Rwanda, Malawi and other nations.
