A German entrepreneur, Stefan Brandt, has set up an enterprise to make leathergoods from fish leather in Quito, Ecuador.

Involved in textile production in Ecuador since the 1990s, Mr Brandt is using the expertise his employees have built up there to make footwear, bags and belts from fish leather tanned by a supplier in China. An initial run of 6,000 products has been produced under the brand name Elbkind Hamburg.

Mr Brandt has told media in Ecuador that each of the 42 people working in his factory in Quito is an artist.
