Reports suggest companies for sale in Italy

Reports from Turkey suggest that companies from that country visiting the recent Micam exhibition in Milan (September 18–21) returned with offers to acquire Italian companies, including tanneries. The suggestion is that, in the face of ongoing economic challenges in Italy, company owners there are looking to sell.

Tanneries were reported to be among the companies on offer, as were footwear manufacturing plants.

The commercial attaché at the Turkish Embassy in Italy, Cumhur Isbirakmaz, has told Turkish media: “We learned that many
companies in the sector were looking for buyers at MICAM. This can be interesting for Turkish investors. The cost of these companies are very cheap, perhaps between 20% and 50% of the original value.”

He said he thought Turkish companies should combine and invest as consortia in Italian manufacturing companies, and warned that Chinese rivals were already in Italy looking to buy small and medium-sized producers.
