Texas wildfires cause $152 million in agricultural losses

29/09/2011

More than 1,500 head of livestock, as well as swaths of pasture have burned in Texas wildfires this year.

Following the worst drought the state has seen in years, experts with Texas AgriLife Extension Service say the wildfires continue to burn through the dried remains on a daily basis.

David Anderson, an economist with the service, has estimated that Texas agriculture lost $152.1 million until September 19, 2011.

This is on top of the estimated $5.2 billion lost to crops and livestock from the drought in Texas.
