The Chinese region of Houjie, in Dongguan, has called a meeting for accelerating the upgrading of the footwear industry, and aims to promote the industry by readjusting industrial structure, according to the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA).

The measures are intended to boost industry growth, and include building a foundation to support the industry, establishing a co-ordination system for local enterprises, and providing a platform for the industry.

There will be a meeting each quarter to solve issues within the industry, with representatives of 11 related local government departments.

The foundation will provide funding to support and encourage the technical innovation and creativity in the industry, as well as brand creation.
