Argentine government to help manufacturers invest in clean technology

The government of Argentina has announced a support package to help manufacturers in Buenos Aires, including tanners, to invest in new technology to make their production processes cleaner.

Campaigners have been openly critical of tanneries in the Buenos Aires region in recent months, claiming they are responsible for contamination in a river there, the Matanza-Riachuelo.

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said $12 million in funding would be available to help small and medium businesses improve their environmental practices.
