Italian tanner creates wine-dyed leather
Italy-based tannery, Prealpina, is showcasing its wine-dyed and olive oil-finished leather at Le Cuir A Paris (20-22 September, 2011).
Director Baldisserotto Giancarlo realised he could use olive oil from his family's olive groves in Southern Italy instead of fat liqours, and collaborated with Pellevino Treatment, an Italian company which specialises in using the waste from wine-making to dye leather, to create a very unique type of leather.
Costing about ten euros more per metre than equivalent leather, the wine-dyed leather is intended for luxury products including footwear and leather handbags. It is on show for the first time at Le Cuir A Paris.
