Indian leather sector increases export value

Indian leather exports increased during the first four months of the current financial (April-July) by 4.8%, reaching a value of over $1.1 billion.

The breakdown showed that the value of exports of leather footwear were up by 6% compared to the same four months in the previous financial year to $443.1 million. The increase for leather garments was 12.2%, reaching $117.2 million, and for leathergoods 15% reaching $273.3 million.

However, on negative note, exports of finished leather fell in value by 5.4% to $225.2 million.
