JBS to sponsor World Leather Congress

The organisers of the World Leather Congress in Rio de Janeiro on November 9, 2011 have named JBS Leather Division as the event’s “Master Sponsor”.

JBS recently announced a strategic review of its Leather Division (see leatherbiz, August 26, 2011) but still has industrial units across Brazil and one in China. There are also distribution centres in Italy, the Czech Republic and China. It produces wet blue, crust and finished leather for the footwear, automotive and upholstery industries.

Two members of the JBS leadership team, Marcus Vinicius Pratini de Moraes and Roberto Motta, are confirmed as specialist speakers on the prorgamme for the congress. In addition the JBS tannery in Itumbiara in the Brazilian state of Goiás will host a technical visit for delegates on the day following the World Leather Congress, November 10.

The Itumbiara tannery processes more than 16,000 hides a day, 10,000 crust and 6,000 finished hides.
