Tannery of the Year: five tanneries highly commended

The celebrations of the five regional winners at Tannery of Year 2011, and especially of global winner Heller-Leder, continued after the Gala Dinner in Shanghai on September 6 throughout the All China Leather Exhibition.

Five tanneries received Highly Commended awards on the night, the five finalists who narrowly missed out an a regional Tannery of the Year prize.

They are Highly Commended because, like their fellow-finalists, they represent excellence in the leather industry’s commitment to corporate social responsibility. They deserve immense credit for the work they have put into working well with local communities, governments, suppliers, customers and their employees, and for concentrating resources and research on environmental best practice.

The Tannery of the Year 2011 book, now available from World Trades Publishing, captures hundreds of examples of this excellence.

Our five Highly Commended tanneries are:

Africa - Elico, Ethiopia
Americas - Artículos de Piel Los Favoritos (B’Leather), the Dominican Republic
Asia excluding China - PT Budi Makmur, Indonesia
China - Gansu Hongliang Leather Limited, Gansu Province
Europe - Hulshof Royal Dutch Tanneries, the Netherlands.
