Gruppo Mastrotto under investigation

30/08/2011
The authorities in Italy have accused one of the most prominent Arzignano tanning groups, Gruppo Mastrotto, of a series of fiscal offences. The allegations centre on informal payments to 174 of the group’s employees.

There has been no official response from the company but reports say the president of the Italian employers’ federation, Confindustria, has travelled to the region to attend an emergency meeting with senior representatives of the company.

Confindustria president, Valter Peretti, was later quoted as saying the Gruppo Mastrotto situation was “delicate”. But he insisted that any suggestion of improper practice across the whole of Italy’s tanning sector would be unfair. “We’re not saying that nothing has happened here, but you can’t tar everyone with the same brush,” he told state broacaster, RAI.
