China will circulate “blacklist of dishonest hide traders”
16/08/2011
Traders from outside China have “lured Chinese tanners” during the last two years of fluctuating raw material costs by offering good quality hides and skins at reasonable prices, the organisation said. However, inspection of the material at the tanneries revealed much lower-quality material than Chinese buyers expected.
In response to complaints from tanners, CLIA has said it will circulate among its members a “blacklist of dishonest hide traders”. It urged all its members to use International Contract Number 6 and sign formal contracts with hide traders. In case of any disputes, it said tanners should collect evidence and start negotiations with sellers in good time. If agreement cannot be reached, they should appeal to CLIA to allow the organisation to try to solve problems with the aid of the International Council of Hides, Skins and Leather Traders Associations.
