Argentina on course for record manufacturing exports

Argentina’s industry minister, Débora Giorgi, has said that the country is on course to double exports of manufactured goods, including leathergoods, between now and 2020.

Speaking at a seminar in Buenos Aires on exports, Ms Giorgi said she believed Argentina would achieve record export earnings this year of $80 billion and that a total of $100 billion was possible in 2012.

She said the government has already helped arranged $1.2 billion in credits for manufacturing firms and she said this assistance would continue. Ms Giorgi also said she hoped to see export-focused brands emerge at the high and medium end, with the leather sector one of those contributing.

She commented: “We mustn’t overlook the importance of developing brands and products at the high and medium level in sectors such as leathergoods.”
