Peabody issues call to leather artists

15/08/2011
Historic tanning industry centre Peabody, Massachusetts, wants to set up a detailed exhibition of artworks showcasing leather.

At its height, Peabody was home to more than 150 businesses related to leather manufacturing, and although the importance of the industry has declined, the town’s Arcworks Community Art Center is planning to launch an art exhibition in October to reflect on the crucial role that leather once played in this community.

The art centre has issued a call to artists throughout the region and beyond to submit works for the exhibition. All art forms are welcome, provided the work includes leather. There is no application fee, and artists have until September 27 to submit an exhibit.

More information is available from the centre’s director, Merritt Kirkpatrick, mkirkpatrick@ne-arc.org.
