Bangladesh puts figure on leathergoods export incentives

Sixteen export sectors and sub-sectors in Bangladesh, including the leathergoods industry, received cash subsidies totalling almost $250 million during the financial year just ended, new data from the state bank shows.

Total export earnings for 2010–2011 were $22.92 billion, an increase of 41.5% on the previous financial year. Leather and leathergoods received incentives worth $22.6 million to boost exports.

For 2011–2012, the government has allocated around $254 million in incentives for 15 export sectors; jute and jute goods exporters will receive a dedicated budget of $40 million to promote exports.
